This is a guest post courtesy of my future brother-in-law Ryan Clarke, and his thoughts on serving others, which is a prevalent topic when it comes to following Christ and acting out our faith.
I hope you enjoy the read.
It is important for us to serve not just at our church, but also at work, school, home, everywhere.
Look at Paul as an example:
He calls himself a slave of Jesus Christ.
If we are a slave to Christ, we don’t just serve in one area of life and not the others. Our whole life is dedicated to Him.
And if our life belongs to Christ we do the things he commands us to do wholeheartedly.
Before Christ was crucified, his words were:
John 13: 34-35 Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other. (MSG)
God is reflected through us when we love one another.
Avoid Living Out Hypocrisy
That being said, when people come to church to find Christ and they see things that are not Christ-like outside of the church walls from us self-proclaimed “Holy” Christians, it pushes them away. It’s a disconnect from what we say we believe and what we’re actually doing.
We cannot think that God is only present inside the church building alone.
He is omnipresent… therefore he sees how you treat the person that cut you off on the road the same way he sees you hugging and loving on another believer on Sunday morning.
Remember the Mission
My final thought is that when Christ came down into this dark world he became the light for us all to follow. He became our example and role model of what is right and true.
So if Christ was the light for us, our job is to be the light for others.
People are always watching us as Christ Followers, just waiting for us to mess up and validate their way of living that may not be at one with God’s purpose for them.
But because of the God in you and I, He can use those very mistakes to bring glory to Him.
Over to You…
Do you find ways to serve God in the day-to-day? Ways to glorify Him and bring light into the dark corners of life?
